Thanthadi Beach Vizag also goes by the name of NTPC Pump Beach among the people of the city. National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) power plant was set up in Vizag for providing power supply to the neighboring villages, cities, and states. Since the water was needed for power production, the power plant was constructed at the beach and it gave the beach its name of NTPC Pump Beach.
This beach comes with a natural view interspersed with an architectural view that comes from the power plant. Though the beach is one of the popular places to visit in Vizag because of its breathtaking backdrop and scenic beauty, it is considered one of the dangerous beaches of the country. Swimming and playing near the waves are completely restricted at the beach as it gets huge tidal waves.
Thanthadi is a black sand beach and is spread over a large area. The pier or the bridge at the beach is a popular spot for capturing some Instagram worthy pictures where you can get under the pier and get your pictures clicked while waves lash at your feet.
Visitors to the beach are not allowed to go over this bridge as it is not safe. A lot of movie and TV serial shootings are done at this beach.
The best time to visit this beach is during the late afternoon and evening. It is also advisable to plan a trip to the beach in a group as it is difficult to navigate the route to the beach alone. There are no food shacks on the beach so you must carry your food and water.

To reach the beach you will need to go around the Visakhapatnam steel plant for about 20 km and from there it's a hectic route that takes you through fields, ponds, and some other smaller plants.
